Mercury Marine Power Designation
Electric propulsion is a "natural evolution" of Mercury Marine industry leadership.
- Measurement of the power of electric devices is normally communicated in terms of Watts.
- 7.5e is MM designation for 750 watts (1HP) of power at the propeller shaft.
- Current combustion engine standards measure power at the propeller shaft. But there isn’t an industry standard for Electric marine drives.
- MM will continue to declare power at the propeller shaft and not create new standards or confuse the market with make believe standards such as “HP equivalent”, and many other terms, which is currently being used by the competition
- The torque curve of an electric motor has full torque throughout the whole speed range, our new drive performs very similar to our current 3.5hp four stroke outboard.
- But hp equivalent is not a measurement, it’s purely only a comparison
Electric motors deliver peak torque instantly & hold peak torque throughout the rpm range allowing for better propeller efficiency & acceleration.
Combustion engine torque peaks much further up the rpm range leading to slower acceleration by comparison.

The Avator 7.5e outboard’s 1 kWh lithium-ion 48V battery was engineered exclusively for marine duty. Light in weight but heavy on durability, safety and performance.
